Bowel Cancer is Britain’s second biggest cancer killer, but is easily treatable if caught early. Unfortunately, people feel too embarrassed to see their doctor and often ignore the signs until it’s too late.
As the cornerstone of a campaign to raise awareness about the 5 signs of bowel cancer, we created a light-hearted but hard-hitting animation that tackled the embarrassment factor head on.
By having an animated character experience the symptoms, as opposed to a real person, the viewer was free to witness all of the awkward scenarios without feeling uncomfortable or embarrassed. The aim being to entertain and inform at the same time to ensure we held the viewer’s attention while delivering vital information.
A key part of the campaign was to crowd-source real life stories by inviting people to tweet their embarrassing body stories, which not only encouraged engagement but also emphasised the message we should listen to our body when it talks and let down the barriers that prevent early diagnosis.
Several of these stories acted as the lead in for the full length version of the animation.
